ZZ Top - Afterburner (RKTBR25) - {Vinyl LP}

This album marked a bold turn for the Texas rock trio. While still rooted in their blues-rock DNA, Afterburner dives head-first into the slick, synth-laden pop/rock sound of the mid-80s—drum machines, sequencers and bright keyboards make their presence known alongside Billy Gibbons’ guitar and Dusty Hill’s bass. The visual theme reflects the sonic shift: the band’s iconic hot-rod car from earlier covers is now depicted as a high-tech space-shuttle, signaling their leap into a more futuristic aesthetic. At its core, the album blends punchy rock rhythms, gritty guitar solos and catchy hooks—accessible yet still unmistakably ZZ Top.
